Ernest S. ‘Ernie’ Malizie, 97, of Niagara Falls, NY died Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Elderwood at Amherst, Amherst, NY. Born December 3, 1921 in Emporium, Pa., he was the son of the late Pietro and Angelina Ruberto Malizia.
Ernie was a graduate of Emporium High School Class of 1939 and attended Niagara University and University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He married the former Jennie Sesto, who is now deceased. Mr. Malizie was employed for many years at Union Carbide and retired from the Research and Development Department as a research engineer. He enlisted in the US Army Airforce in 1942, becoming a Radio Operator/Mechanic and a Turret Gunner on the B24 bomber. He was awarded the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1946. He was also a member of First Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Malizie is survived by a daughter, Carol (late Michael) Tomaino of Scottsdale, AZ and a son, Anthony Malizie of Niagara Falls, two grandchildren, Michelle (Gary) Levy, Pittsford, NY and Michael Tomaino, Scottsdale, AZ and two great grandchildren, Morgan Haley Levy and Jacob Levy. He is also survived by two sisters, Virginia (late Wayne) Weaver of Wilmington, NC and Edith (John) Malizia Grandits of Williamsville, NY and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, John, Joseph (Pete), Willie, Nick, Carl (Beezer), and Charles (Chachi), all of Emporium, PA and two sisters, Marie (Teeney) Cygan of Butler, PA and Rita Kennedy of Danvers, MA. Also predeceased by his special friend Margaret Cappellazo.
Friends may be received on Thursday, August 22 from 2 – 6 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where services will be held at 6 PM, concluding with Military Honors.
Private interment will take place in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY,
at the convenience of the family.
