The Bucktail Re-Union Returns to Emporium for the Sesquicentennial
It was 1896 when the Bucktails planned a reunion in Emporium. In 2010 those that remember the Bucktails will gather at the Cameron County Fairgrounds. The gathering will take place August 27-29.
Re-Union members will dress in wool uniforms, set up a camp similar to what the Bucktails did when they fought in the Civil War. One of those uniforms is on display at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce.
The public is encouraged to come to the fairgrounds starting Friday night at 8 when stories will be shared around a campfire. On Saturday the camp will open at 10 in the morning and various displays will be on display. At noon the Bucktails will eat a camp lunch and 4:30 a photograph using Civil War era methods will be taken. A dinner will be served at 6 PM.
Sunday the Bucktails will host a wreath laying ceremony at the Newton Cemetery at the grave site of Lt. R.B. Warner of Company “C”.
Organizers expect at 30 Bucktails and family members to attend the Re-Union. If you would like more information contact Chuck Copello at 814-389-5405.
