GKN & GKN Employees Support the Cameron County Community Chest

GKN & GKN EMPLOYEES ARE A MAJOR SUPPORTER OF THE CAMERON COUNTY COMMUNITY CHEST 2018 FUND DRIVE

Over the past 42 years GKN Sinter Metals Emporium facilities (originally PPM) have been supporting the Cameron County Community Chest via employee contributions through payroll deduction. An added incentive is that the company also donates to the drive. Since the inception of this program, GKN has been a major contributor to the Cameron County Community Chest in helping it to meet the fund drive goals. Over the years since the program started, GKN has raised between 25% and 67% of the funds needed to hit the goals of the Community Chest.

This year the donations from GKN and its employees total $8,110.40. This represents 41% of the $20,100 goal. The CCCC commends GKN and their employees for their continued support of the Cameron County Community Chest.

We are now six months into the 2018 fund drive. With the donation from GKN, we have collected $19,601.90 toward our $20,100 goal. Thanks to all who have contributed to the 2018 Fund Drive.

We still need your support. Donations and/or Memorials can be made for this drive through September of 2018. We will be keeping this drive open. Watch each month for updates.

No donation/memorial is too small. Please send your tax-deductible contribution to: Cameron County Community Chest, PO Box 134, Emporium, PA. 15834, Attn: Judd Schager. Or, go to our Face book page for the convenience of using Pay-pal. Help to support the Recreation Board, Community Nurses, Red Cross, Friends of the Library, Package Team, Garden Club, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sylvan Heritage, 4-H, SPCA, and Special Community Requests.

Rotary News

Local historian, Bill Bogart, was the guest speaker at the Rotary luncheon meeting March 20th. Bill gave an interesting history of Benedict Arnold (1971-1801), a patriot officer who served the cause of the American Revolution until 1779, when he shifted his allegiance to the British. Thereafter, his name became an epithet for traitor in the United States. More information on this subject can be found in Bill O’Reilly’s book “Killing England” and a film “A Question of Honor.”

Bridge Replacement on Moore Hill Road

Emporium, PA – Work to replace a bridge on Moore Hill Road (Route 3001) in Cameron County got underway yesterday, March 12, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). The bridge spans West Creek about 5 miles west of Emporium in the village of Howard. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Cameron County’s structurally deficient bridge list. Replacement will also eliminate current weight limit postings of 11 ton for single vehicles, 15 ton for combination vehicles, and the restriction of “one truck at a time”.

The current 84-foot bridge dates from 1972 and carries an average of more than 230 vehicles each day. The project began yesterday with crews working on erosion and sedimentation controls and construction of some temporary supports.

The existing steel-grate bridge will be replaced with a new concrete structure through half-width construction. Temporary traffic signals and lane closures will be in effect the week of April 2. Project work also includes, drainage improvements, roadway widening, paving, and guide-rail updates. The new bridge is expected to be complete by the end of August.

All work is weather and schedule dependent. Rylind Construction Company, Inc. of Lewisberry, PA is the contractor on this $1.7 million job. Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

To help make decisions about travel, motorists are encouraged to “Know Before You Go” by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com.

511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 850 traffic cameras. Users can also see plow truck statuses and travel alerts along a specific route using the “Check My Route” tool.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.

Rich Valley Burners, LLC

When we started this venture in June of 2017 we were not sure how things were going to go.
We thought we had a pretty good idea, but you don’t know until you do it. I don’t believe we could have asked for a better first 9 months. Other than posting pictures on here we don’t say much. We figure it is best to just let the work speak for itself. However, it’s worth saying THANK YOU to the community, our family, our friends, our suppliers, our loyal fan base, and our customers. We are very busy and expect to continue to stay busy…a good problem to have. Please continue to follow us and watch our work. If you want to help us…please…SHARE OUR POSTS! That has been the best way to get the word out and to get people talking about us and placing orders. Please look for us to add more items to our photo gallery in the coming weeks.
Thank you!

Cameron County Businesses Brings Home Gold

Cameron County Businesses Brings Home Gold

What began as a hobby is putting Emporium on the foodie must visit list. Dave Smith from Pizza Palace Plus not only has bragging rights to the “Best Pizza in America”, voted one of the best places to eat by snowmobilers in Pennsylvania but has now taken his hobby of raising bees to the level of best wildflower honey in the world according to the Good Food Award announced earlier this year.

The awards line the walls at the entrance of Pizza Palace Plus. What many patrons do not realize is that Smith has replaced sugar in his sauce and dough with sweet sticky honey. Palace Apiaries hives can be found across Cameron County and within a few miles of the borders of the county. While his focus is on raising bees and selling them to bee keepers, he sells the honey at Pizza Palace Plus and the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce & Artisan Center.

The 2018 Good Food Awards judged honey from around the world. Smith’s Pennsylvania Wildflower Honey impressed the judges. Good Food Awards distinguish value added food and beverage products in fifteen categories. More than 2000 entries submitted.
