All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ Results

All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ

Covid-19 and unexpected conflicting events held down the number of competitors for Saturday’s All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ. Organizers say the early fall weather combined with music, beverages, and vendors kept the crowd in downtown Emporium throughout the afternoon.

What normally has at least five competitors drew two, which reduced the competition to two categories. Smokin Pig Barbecue from Reynoldsville took home the top prizes in both categories of wings and pulled pork. PaPa’s Smoke Shack from Emporium voted best by those attending the event.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak noted that by late Thursday the competitors dwindled to two because of a funeral, and team members either placed in quarantine or testing positive for Covid-19. “The decision was made to have the event and make the best of it. The remaining competitors stepped up and prepared more food for the crowd.” A surprise vendor volunteered to make pulled pork and donate all proceeds to the Cameron County Fireworks. Fred Vincenti is the newly hired marketing outreach coordinator for Cameron County. “Freddy offered to make more food to feed the crowd when he overheard the conversations taking place on Friday,” explained Solak.

The event is held on the fourth Saturday of September each year to coincide with the Sinnemahone Gravel Race. Organizers say despite the lack of competitors there is no plan to eliminate the event from the Cameron County calendar. That calendar of events can be found at www.cameroncountychamber.org.
