James D. Coppersmith


James D. Coppersmith, 89, of 200 W. Seventh Street, Emporium, PA died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Thursday (April 19, 2018) morning following a lengthy illness. He was born June 12, 1928 in St. Marys, PA a son of the late L. Neil and Ophelia Dodson Coppersmith. On November 26, 1953 in St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, PA he married Beverly Nelson, who survives. Mr. Coppersmith graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1946. He worked with the Coppersmith Furniture Store in Emporium for over 50 years, most of which he was a co-owner. He was a past member of the Coudersport Masonic Lodge as well as the Shriners and the Emporium Mens’ Club. Jim enjoyed round dancing, square dancing, line dancing, and roller skating. He had a love for gardening and the neighbors affectionately referred to him as "Mr. Wilson". Nothing was more important than his family. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

In addition to his wife Beverly he is survived by a son, James D. (Ginny) Coppersmith, Jr, Kane; daughter, Joyce (James) Wolfe, Orlando, FL; daughter, Jill Domitrovich, Falls Creek; son, Jerry (Amy) Coppersmith, Erie; daughter, Joann Clingan, Emporium; eleven grandchildren: Nathan, Kyle, Ryan, Kelsey, Joshua, Alyssa, Kaela, Karlee, Dylan, Logan & Conner; six great grandchildren: Emma, Hunter, Jayden, Leland, Landon & Mariah; a brother, George (Wilda) Coppersmith, Emporium; sister, Grace (Robert) Peters, Huntingdon.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Neil, Frank, Robert, Leroy and Walter Coppersmith and a sister, Theresa Carpenter.

Visitation with Video Tribute will be at the Barnett Funeral Home 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Sunday from 2-4 PM with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM. Officiating will be Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, St. Mark Catholic Church. 

Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA
