Genemare Bateman Mitchell, 97, formerly East Fifth Street, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, in the Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium.
Born February 7, 1920 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Grace Summerson Bateman. A lifelong resident of Emporium she was a 1938 graduate of Emporium High School.
On February 19, 1940 in Youngsville she married Harry A. “Ham” Mitchell who died June 21, 1994 in Coudersport.
Mrs. Mitchell was a lifelong member and a choir member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Emporium, a member of the Wednesday Bridge Club for many years, the Birthday Club for over 30 years, and was a former member of Emporium Country Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of Emporium Country Club and its Thursday Bridge Club. Besides playing bridge, Genemare also enjoyed walking, hiking, and family parties and picnics.
Survivors include: three daughters, Sally (David) Guloien, Mary (Richard) Olivett, and Molly (Larry) Topolski all of Emporium; one son, James (Jo Ann) Mitchell of Hammondsport, NY; eight grandchildren, Heather Mitchell (Daniel Walsh), Jeanmare (Thomas) Holjencin, Eirik Guloien, Michelene Olivett, Richard Olivett, Kevin Topolski, Keith Topolski, and Lauren (Kevin) Dougherty; nine great grandchildren; and also nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Annabelle Thornton and June Leonard, a brother, Frank Bateman, and a grandson, David Guloien, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial with committal service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Fr. Matthew Ryan, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church or Guy and Mary Felt Manor, both in Emporium.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
