Gladys M. Schultz


Gladys M. Schultz, 94, of 284 Waldy Run Rd., Emporium, PA died at her residence on Wednesday evening. (April 5, 2017) She was born November 23, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Smrz Liska. On July 23, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin she married the late Arthur J. Schultz

Gladdie was a school teacher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she taught English. After marriage, she came to Emporium and worked for eight years in the finance department at Sylvania. She then left Sylvania to stay home and raise her family. An accomplished pianist/organist, she had a great love of music and played many local events in the area. She played the organ for the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Emporium for over 50 years and provided piano accompaniment to the Singing Dutchmen of St Marys for over 45. More recently, she played keyboard for the Mountain Melodies instrumental group. Gladdie was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the St. Hilda’s Guild.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynne (Mike) O'Leary and son, Arthur J. (Edith) Schultz, Jr. both of Emporium; sister-in-law, Alice Liska, Santa Fe, NM; niece, Marcia MacEachron, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Smrz Liska, husband, Arthur J. Schultz who died Feb. 28, 1998, and one brother, Donald J. Liska.

Funeral services will be held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 144 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (April 8, 2017) at 11:00 AM with Father Matthew Ryan, Rector, officiating. 

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 East Fourth St., Emporium, PA on 
Friday from 6-8 PM.
 Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA.
