Emporium Winners in the 5th Annual Les Haas Memorial Trail Challenge

Nick Peters, Bri Peters, Eugenia Clark

Yesterday was the Elk Co. Conservation District annual trail challenge in memory of Les Haas, my father. There were 3 runners from Emporium this year and all of them brought home a medal.

Eugenia Clark was the all around winner in the women's 14k division while Les's grandchildren, Nick Peters won second in his age group and Bri Peters first in her age group for the 7k run. Nancy Mcbreen ran the 7k. She won 3rd in the women's 70+ age division.  I know how proud my dad would be of the whole event- that the proceeds go to teaching youth about conservation. Thank you all for your support. Rebecca Haas Peters.

About Les Haas: Les was a US Army veteran and served as a Waterways Conservation Officer with the PA Fish & Boat Commission for 20 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Elk County Conservation District for 8 years. Les was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the NRA, PA Federation of Sportsmen, St. Marys Sportsmens Club, B.A.S.S., Buckmaster Whitetail Deer Hunting Association, National Trappers Association and Christian Sportsman Fellowship. Les devoted his life to conservation efforts and was actively involved in many Conservation District activities, including the annual Elk County Envirothon. Les passed unexpectedly on February 24, 2012. In Les’s honor, proceeds from this event will be used for environmental education efforts within Elk County.
