Firequacker Duck Derby Ready for First Fork Festival
A major fundraiser for the fireworks that light up the sky in Cameron County set for Saturday October 10 in conjunction with the First Fork Festival at Sinnemahoning State Park. The Firequacker Duck Derby will be held at Forty Maples Day Use Area starting at 1:30 Saturday. “All of the events coordinated by the chamber of commerce benefit all residents of Cameron County, but most of those activities take place in Emporium,” explained Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Johns Solak.
“In 2014 the race was moved to Sinnemahoning and we had the largest turnout for the event entering its fourth year,” Solak continued. More than 500 ducks have been adopted and will paddle down the First Fork. The first, second and third place finishers will earn their adopted trainers cash prizes.
Ducks can be adopted in Emporium until noon on Friday at the following locations: L&M Lumber, Reids Hometown Napa and the chamber of commerce office. At the First Fork Festival ducks will be available until noon Saturday at the fireworks stand where hot sausage, kraut and plain hotdogs plus soup will be sold.
This year Seneca Resources will match dollar for dollar the amount of money raised through the Firequacker Duck Derby.
The fireworks will blast off Saturday, July 2 from the Cameron County High School.
