Former Cameron County School teacher passes away.
Many students have fond memories of Char Woodley. RIP
Charlotte Rueger Woodley, 88, of St. Marys, died Feb. 17 in Scranton. On Nov. 25, 1949, in Ridgeway Presbyterian Church, she was married to Clarence George Woodley. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2011.
Born Jan. 29, 1927, in Lucerne, Switzerland, daughter of the late Ernst and Anna Bucher Rueger, she graduated from the Hoehere Toechferschule in Zurich, earned a certificate in French from the University of Geneva and came to this country as an exchange student at the University of Pittsburgh.
She also held a Swiss Red Cross nursing license and worked at the Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, past matron of John Wanama Kev Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Northern Cultural Alliance, Cameron County Arts, a subscriber to the Pittsburgh Symphony Concerts and a life member of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association
.
Her professional affiliations included American Association of Teachers of German, Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, Alliance Françoise and Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Her teaching career included lectures at the University of Pittsburgh, St. Marys Area High School and 28 years at Cameron County High School, retiring in 1992.
Charlotte enjoyed her family, her friends, nature, reading, music, a versatility of hobbies and extensive domestic and world travel.
She is survived by a son, Christopher Woodley, M.D., and wife, Linda;
three grandchildren, Briar Woodley, Glenn Woodley and Holly Woodley Shane and husband, Kevin; and a great-grandson, Dean Clarence Shane.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Geoffrey R. Woodley; and two siblings, Anne Rueger Ramseier and Ernst Rueger.
A memorial service will be planned and announced at a future date.
