Prescribed Burns in Benezette Twp and Lumber Twp

Elk State Forest 

Elk State Forest is planning to perform Prescribed Burns in Benezette Twp and Lumber Twp as indicated in Red in the attached maps sometime this spring. 

Prescribed burns help release established oak regeneration from less desirable interfering vegetation such as black birch and pin cherry. Prescribed burns are completed under specified weather conditions by a team of fire experts who go through extreme careful planning procedures ahead of an event.
