Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run Update

Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run

The annual Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run set for Saturday October 19. The event includes three distances from which competitors can select. The 50k and 25k routes are altered this year to avoid a conflict with the annual youth hunt. Runners will leave the Wiley Trail and traverse a new trail which links to Mowery Road.

Those selecting to run the 50k will leave Emporium starting at 7:30am and have 10 hours to complete the 50k. That event takes runners through the Elk State Forest on scenic trails including Wiley, Bucktail Path, and Chicago Springs. Volunteers will man the 6 aid stations for the event. Each aid station will have a representative from Mountaineer Search & Rescue to maintain radio contact in case of any emergencies.

Runners can elect to participate in a 25k following Steam Mill and returning to the finish line on the West Creek Recreational Trail. The third route is a 12k climbing a pipeline off of Route 155, and connecting on Bauer Hollow before returning to Emporium on the Wiley Trail.

This event promotes the county and its natural resources in addition to being an economic boost according to Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak. “The committee makes sure the shirts are printed locally at Art N Ink, awards are engraved by artists and the items provided at the aid stations are purchased from Emporium Food Market,” Solak explains. Runners from Texas and California are staying for an extended weekend which means lodging and restaurants benefit.

Registration will be halted Friday October 18 at noon. Online registration is available at www.runsignup.com or by phone at 814-486-4314.
