Louise Jane (Barone) Harlan

Louise Jane (Barone) Harlan, 87, of St Marys (formerly of Emporium) died Monday, October 21, 2024, at Christ The King Manor, with her family by her side, following an 8-month long battle with Beriberi. She was born on August 18, 1937, in Niagara Falls NY, the daughter of the late George and Grace (Torre) Barone. On September 26, 1959, in Niagara Falls, NY she married the love of her life, Lawrence A. Harlan Sr, who preceded her in death in November of 1998.

She was a licensed Insurance Agent with Sestina Insurance Agency which later became Straub Insurance Agency from which she retired from in 2007. She enjoyed her time as an agent in Emporium and in St Marys. She was dedicated to her customers and the communities which she served. She cherished her time with the Sestina and Straub families, and with her coworkers who quickly became some of her most loved friends. She spent her retired years enjoying her home on Vine Road, sitting out on the carport visiting with family, friends and her very special friend Dee Corp, and beloved neighbors. She loved watching the birds, doing crafts, reading, and was a prayer warrior for anyone who needed prayer. She was pampered by her devoted son, Andy, whom she enjoyed spending time with. They enjoyed church, many meals, card games, Yahtzee, crafts, deep conversations, praying, and lots of laughs together. She then passed the baton onto her daughter Mary, who lovingly cared for her during her illness and stay at Christ The King Manor.

Besides her son Lawrence "Andy" Harlan, of St Marys, she is also survived by another son Mark (Margie) Harlan of Clarion, PA, two Daughters, Pamela (Ed) Hand of Emporium, and Mary (Greg) Secco of St Marys, a very special bonus daughter Bonnie (Ed) VanAmburg, Watkins Glen, NY. and a former son-in-law Bill Hostetlar who remained a cherished loved one.
She is also survived by her five sisters in laws and their husbands, Constance (Harry "Dick") Jones, of Sanborn, NY, Beverly (Joe) Jones, Sandy (Tom) Kossman, Mitzi (Scott) Austin, Debra (John) Cummings, Fran (the late Jack) Guisto, and Brother-in-Law Dennis and the Late Mary "Mert" Dillon, all of Emporium, PA.
She is survived by five Grandchildren, Adam (Lisa) Hostetlar, Luke (Courtney) Hostetlar of Emporium, PA, Ben (Samantha) Harlan of Chambersburg, PA, Travis (Jessica Snyder) Secco of Pittsburgh, PA and Adina (Todd) Beaumont of Bellefonte, PA, Ten Great-Grandchildren, Kendyl Hostetlar, Shea and Ryan Moore, Kaden Hostetlar, Braelyn Bloom, Kadence, Silas, Daniel, and Nathanial Harlan, Genevieve Beaumont, and baby Harlan on the way in March 2025. Also, many many nieces and nephews whom she loved with all her heart, one of whom she passed the Barone title of matriarch onto, Jeanie McLennon, as she was confident, Jeanie will do a great job.

Besides her parents, husband, mother and father-in laws Margaret and John Yesenko, and Jack and Ann Guisto, brother-in-law Jack Guisto and sister-in-law Mert Guisto, she was also preceded in death by her beautiful great granddaughter Kaylee Hostetlar, nephews Michael and Rusty Jones, James "Nick" Guisto, and Thomas Kossman, and her great-nephew Andrew Summers, who were all very dear to her heart.
In 87 years' time, Louise made an impact on many lives, she cherished her family and friends and also, they had a great impact on her. She laughed during the happy times and managed to smile through the tough times. She was a great example of how to fight and be grateful when things were tough. She inspired other residents, nurses and therapists at Christ The King Manor. Her children were very proud of her uplifted spirit and the love she vowed to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She said and firmly believed "Jesus is the Answer".

The family would like to celebrate her life with an informal gathering with prayer, singing, and fellowship. Please join them on November 10, 2024, at the Emporium Fire Hall 1PM, a luncheon will be served.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the local food banks or hurricane victims. Also take care of your elderly loved ones. Beriberi is rare, but even a small deficiency in thiamine (vitamin B1) can be a hindrance to their nervous system which affects balance, feeling, and memory.
