Cameron County Farmers Market
It’s nearly the end of market season but we are very excited to welcome one more new vendor to our line-up for the year, our very good friend, Guy Howlett!
At an impressive 89 years old, Guy will be the oldest vendor to date and he brings with him a wealth of experience and a treasure trove of local stories to share. Guy has lived in Cameron County his whole life, still living in the very same house he was born in. Always ready with a laugh and a joke, Guy will be a welcome addition to the market this weekend!
Guy will be bringing his delicious Bartlett pears to the market and he will have many, many boxes full so come on down to grab yours!
If you have driven through Cameron during the fall months you will probably have noticed his two massive pear trees growing in his front yard, heavy with hundreds of pears. They have been standing there since the 70s, as he likes to share: “my mother bought the first tree for 50 cents and then the second one for $1.50, they’ve never been pruned but have produced thousands of pears in the last 50 years!”
We can vouch for how delicious the pears are, we help pick them every year and are lucky enough to enjoy them fresh or as pear sauce all year long.
Guy will be at the market between 9-10am this Saturday, 12 October at the Emporium Town Square so pop by to say hi to Guy, grab some of his pears and listen to his fascinating stories of local history.
Welcome to the market, Guy!
