Cameron County Conservation District
Our office has been made aware of several dogs that have died from suspected harmful algae blooms in the West Creek area of Cameron County.
With the heatwave of 6 days in a row of 90+ degree weather coupled with very low flow and stagnant water this unfortunately created conditions that favor the development of harmful algae.
The Department of Environmental Protection has been notified and is investigating the situation.
At this time we recommend using discretion in giving your animals access to non-potable water sources.
Please contact our office if your animals are experiencing any symptoms so that we can put you in touch with the appropriate authorities.
In addition, below is a link with more information regarding pets and HABs.
