Rotary News - 2004 Rotary District Conference Musical

Presenter Rotarian Linda Reid shared a recorded program from the 2004 Rotary District Conference musical. This musical portrayed the beginning and growth of Rotary International as we know it today. Founder Paul Harris, began a Chicago Rotary Club in 1905 with the vision and actions of the "Service Above Self" motto, which is still our motto. At the time of Paul Harris' death in 1947, there were a total of 280,000 members which continued to grow to 1,200,000 members and 32,000 clubs across the globe in 1965. In 1972 the Youth Exchange Program began and in 1989 women entered. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Rotary International and Rotary Foundation in 2012 for its many services, but mostly because of the Polio Eradication efforts across the world. Our local play participants were Linda Reid, Emporium's first woman president, Rotarian Georgianna Holly and her husband Walt Holly.
