Cameron County Recreation Center Refreshes Flag Dispay

Cameron County Recreation Center
With a new year quickly approaching, the Recreation Center refreshed one of our displays this week, featuring the Cameron County Flag. The county flag was adopted as the official county flag in 1960 at the time of the centennial, following a competition to create flag designs. The flag was designed by William B. McBride and was made by United Presbyterian Women.

Over the summer of 2022, the supervisor of the Interstate 81 North Welcome Center in Greencastle Franklin County reached out to Annette Campbell, Cameron County Chief Clerk regarding a project he was working on for his Welcome Center. He explained his plan to feature each flag from Pennsylvania’s counties from their lobby ceiling, and requested a flag from Cameron County to be included.

The Cameron County Commissioners, Marketing Director, and Chief Clerk decided that they would not only send a flag to represent our proud little county, but they would ensure that they were sending one of quality. They enlisted the help of local, Shirley Condon of Art & Ink, to help recreate the design onto new flags. One of those new flags is now on display at the Recreation Center, as pictured here. The display also features some lovely Cameron County themed decorations from local Flowers ‘N Things gift shop.
Next time you visit the Recreation Center, be sure to check it out!
