Fun for the Whole Family this Labor Day Weekend at Sinnemahoning State Park
Sinnemahoning State Park is offering something for everyone this Labor Day weekend, with programs ranging from antler scoring, to butterfly tagging, stargazing, boat rides, and more!

Saturday, September 3rd, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Measuring and Scoring Antlers. Discover how deer and elk antlers grow, what conditions make for the largest antlers, and how to measure them. Practice measuring elk antlers, and get some reference sheets to take home. Best for adults and older kids. Meet in the Wildlife Center Classroom.
Saturday, September 3rd, 2:00–3:00 PM
Monarch Watch Butterfly Tagging. Catch the monarch migration in action. Program starts indoors with a presentation on the migration and natural history of monarchs, then take a short walk to catch, tag, and release butterflies. Arial nets will be provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk through fields. The tagging portion of the program will not take place in damp or rainy weather. All ages welcome. Meet in the Wildlife Center Classroom.

September Skies of Sinnemahoning. Admire the wonder of the night sky with our astronomy and stargazing programs. Learn about the constellations, planets, and other night sky sightings visible throughout the month. All ages. Campground Amphitheater. This program is open to all visitors, even those not staying in the campground.
Saturday, September 3rd, 8:00–8:30 PM
September Stargazing. Experience the wonder of the park at night through a laser-guided tour of the night sky. Telescopes will be available if weather permits. Wildlife Viewing Area, one mile north of the park office and Wildlife Center.
Sunday, September 4th, 9:00-10:15 AM, 10:30-11:45 AM, 12:00-1:15 PM
Pontoon Tours of the Stevenson Dam. Join park staff for a fun and informative tour, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. There is no fee for regular Sunday interpretive pontoon boat tours, but donations are requested. Group size is limited. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly recommended: https://events.dcnr.pa.gov/sinnemahoning_state_park/calendar. All ages and abilities welcome! Meet at the Lake Day Use Area.
Sunday, September 4th, 2:00-3:00 PM
Pioneer Skills. Try your hand at the old-fashioned skills of using a quill pen, making (and tasting) butter, and playing historical games. Materials provided, all ages. Meet at Pavilion 1 of the 40 Maples Day Use Area.
Sunday, September 4th, 8:00-9:45 PM
Austin Dam Disaster. Listen to a short talk by the park naturalist, followed by the documentary The Austin Dam Disaster narrated by Willie Nelson. Learn about one of the most dramatic dam failures in the historic United States, and how it affected the local and national communities. Movie runtime 90 minutes. This program is open to all visitors, even those not staying in the campground.
