Programs This Weekend at Sinnemahoning State Park

Come to Sinnemahoning State Park this weekend!
Try your hand at a few commonplace historic skills, learn about bats in Pennsylvania and help collect information on bats in the park, and explore the lake on a guided pontoon tour.

Saturday, July 16, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Pioneer Skills at the 40 Maples Day Use Area, Pavilion 1. Take a step back in time and learn how a few common, every-day skills were done back in the day! Hands-on activities include butter-making (and tasting) and quill-pen calligraphy. All ages welcome. No pre-registration required, stop by 40 Maples any time between 10 AM and 11 AM.

Saturday, July 16, from 3:00 – 4:00 PM, Bats Around the Home. Learn about the bats the live in Pennsylvania and the benefits of having bats around your home. This program is a PowerPoint presentation with lots of useful handouts! Get information on bat-proofing your house and take home plans and measurements for a simple, wooden bat box. No pre-registration required. Meet in the Wildlife Center Classroom.

Saturday, July 16, from 8:00 – 10:30 PM, Nature at Night: Annual Bat Count. Find out why bats are in trouble and what you can do help! Come prepared to observe and count bats as they emerge from their roosting structures for the night. Wear insect repellant, long pants, and close-toed shoes to stay comfortable out in the field. No pre-registration required. Meet in the Wildlife Center Classroom, then drive to the Wildlife Viewing Area to search for bats.

Sunday, July 17, 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM, and 12:00 PM, Pontoon Tours of the Stevenson Dam. Join park staff for a fun and informative 1.25 hour program, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. There is no fee for regular Sunday interpretive pontoon boat tours, but DONATIONS ARE REQUESTED. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, please pre-register. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly recommended. Meet at the Lake Day Use Area.
