Cameron County Farmers Market
We have one last vendor to welcome to this Saturday's market: the lively Robin Kuleck from the Little Red Barn Farm!
Robin and her husband, Mike, have created a little slice of animal heaven and anyone who knows me even a little can guess at how much fun I had at this vendor visit!
Robin always had a dream of owning alpacas and they now have 21 of these adorable creatures roaming around on their large farm. A little shy to the touch, they are nevertheless friendly enough to approach and when they look at you with those beautiful big eyes it's hard not to instantly fall in love! Robin shears them every year and the super soft alpaca wool is dyed and knitted into a variety of garments by her talented mother, Teresa Genaux (who will hopefully be joining our market in August!).
Along with the alpacas they have a small herd of super friendly and cuddly goats, a couple of farm cats and an elderly rescue dog called Izzy. It was a real pleasure to meet such fellow animal lovers!
Robin is also a keen gardener and has cultivated an abundant garden filled to the brim with a large selection of vegetables and many, many berry bushes. Lucky for us she will be bringing some of her harvest from these, and her apple orchard, to the market!
In addition, she will be offering some of her own knitted and woven garments and textiles for sale. She has a real talent for intricate designs, and I got a fascinating mini lesson on how she achieves these with her very versatile loom.
I have no doubt Robin is already well known and loved throughout the community for her big heart, bubbly personality, green thumb and knitting prowess and it is with great pleasure that we welcome her to our market!
Robin is not just a lover of animals but she so helped out with Cameron County Probation for years. She helped teaching kids all kinds of skills and adults with financial assistance. She and Mike are truly Cameron County treasures.
