Bernard M. "Barnie" Bauer, Jr.

Bernard M. "Barnie" Bauer, Jr., 70, of 2442 Plank Road Hollow, Emporium, PA passed away at Penn Highlands DuBois, DuBois, PA on Monday afternoon (April 25, 2022). He was born March 20, 1952 in St. Marys, PA a son of the late Bernard and Catherine (Songer) Bauer. On September 17, 1976 in St. Mark Catholic Church he married Bonita Rees, who survives him.

Ben, known to some as Barnie, graduated from Cameron County High School, Class of 1970. He was a self-employed dairy farmer starting at age ten and worked his entire life on his family’s century farm; something he always said he was born to do. He enjoyed spending time outdoors baling hay, planting crops and cracking jokes. He also loved spending time with his family and in the later years spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.

Ben had 3 loves in his life; his farm, his children, and his wife of 45 years, his Bonnie. There are many in and around Emporium who can say what a special place the farm is and what fond memories they have of spending time with Ben throughout the years. If you ever had the fortune to talk with Ben, he would always talk, at great length about how proud he was of his children and of course how much he loved his wife.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jamie (Nick) Druga, Pittsburgh; son, Scott (Leah) Bauer, Emporium; daughter, Lauren (Tom) Modafarre, Ridgway; daughter, Emily (Jon) Coleman, Emporium; and special friends Cassidy and Bryan Dempsey, Emporium; nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Abigail, Alana, Jason, Jackson, Dakota, Grant, Leona, Adelaide and Benjamin; sister, Helen Newton, Emporium; sister, Marilyn Bauer, Texas, Along with many nieces and nephews.

Creekside Sports Bar and Event Center Update

Creekside Sports Bar and Event Center
 13285 PA-120 Emporium, PA 15834

Latest update. Met with food supplier and wanted to let a little information out. Our menu will be changing. We will not be carrying your ordinary, run of the mill bar food. It will all still be delicious and reasonably priced, but we want to provide the area with a little better quality and out of the ordinary food. It's better to have a smaller menu that you can make great and quickly instead of a huge menu with lots of overhead supplies. First bit of info: we will have more than just deep-fried appetizers. Food that tastes better and looks a LOT more appetizing.
Please keep checking our Facebook page as we will be starting to post pics and info shortly.

CC Historical Society Hosting Historical Writer Guy Graybill April 30

Don't Miss!!!!!
Cameron County Historical Societies"Lunch Box Social" and meet keynote speaker PA Historical Writer, Guy Graybill
When: Saturday April 30, 2022
Place: VFW - EmporiumTime: 1:00 PM
Cost: $12.00
Anyone can attend!

Graybill is an author of six books many involving history that can be found on Amazon.com and other outlets.
Months ago Guy contacted us seeking information on a book he is currently completing entitled "The Rake of Restless Oaks." This is a book that debunks the phony claim of "folklore" for the writing of Pennsylvania author Henry W. Shoemaker (1880-1958), of Clinton County.

Many of us who are history buffs are familiar with Mr. Shoemaker's published over 200 books and pamphlets on Pennsylvania folklore, legends, manners customs, wildlife, and a variety of other topics.

Until Graybill, contacted us we never knew that Shoemaker actually had a connection to Cameron County. We discovered his first wife was Beatrice Genevieve Barclay born in Sinnemahoning PA the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Shafer) Barclay. Henry and Beatrice married in 1907 when she was 18 years old and together they had one son, Henry Francis Shoemaker II.

Discovering this connection, we requested he come for a visit Mr. Graybill.

This is a "Social" you don't want to miss red checked tablecloths and all.
Spring has sprung time to get out.

Come join us Saturday April 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM Emporium VFW for an old fashioned "Lunch Box Social" , The cost is $12 per person.
 Everyone is welcome!
