Seeds now available for “checkout” at your local library

Stop! Put down that seed catalog and walk away!

Before you order your seeds for spring, check out the new Seed Library at the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library in Emporium. Available now for “checkout”, the library has a variety of vegetable and flower seeds, as well as a few melon varieties. Just pick out your seeds, then use your library card to check out your desired seed pack, just like a regular library book. No need to return these library items, but, if you already harvest and preserve seeds, the library encourages you to donate your non-gmo, non-hybrid and heirloom varieties to help grow the Seed Library each year.

A complete list of 2022 available seeds as well as details on donating are available at https://barbaramoscatobrownlibrary.org/seed-library or by stopping by the library located at 27 West 4th Street in Emporium. Also, coming Saturday, March 5, the library will have a great program presented by area Master Gardeners called “Do You Want to Start a Garden This Year? Let Your Excuses Be-Gone!” Look for more details about this program in the coming week.

“We hope local gardeners will take advantage of this great new service the library is offering and help us to grow this into a bigger and better seed collection in the years to come.” Said Librarian Yelena Kisler,

“We’re so excited to share this great resource with our community.” “Seeds are only available in limited quantities, so we encourage those interested to get their desired seeds before we run out,” she said. Quantity of seeds per pack is not guaranteed since this is a free item, minimum needed for pollination is guaranteed. All seeds are non-gmo and heirloom varieties as attested to by the donors.
Details on seed sourcing is available upon request from library staff.
