Programs this weekend at Sinnemahoning State Park:

Saturday, August 21, 10:00-11:00 AM, Hummingbirds Jewels in Flight. 
 Hummingbirds add color and delight to every garden they visit. Learn more about these beautiful tiny birds and how you can invite them to visit your backyard with this indoor, photo-filled PowerPoint presentation followed by question-and-answer session. Good for all ages. Wildlife Center classroom.

Saturday, August 21, 2:00-3:30 PM, Monarch Butterfly Tagging.
 Monarch butterfly migration presentation followed by a short walk to catch, tag, and release monarch butterflies. Arial nets provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk through fields. All ages welcome. Please note: The tagging portion of the program will not take place in damp or rainy weather. Presentation will be held rain or shine.

Saturday, August 21, 7:00-8:00 PM , Owls of Pennsylvania
Learn about the wonderful owls that live in Pennsylvania, including their characteristics, behaviors, their calls, and what species might prowl the night woods at Sinnemahoning State Park. Illustrated talk including taxidermied mounts. All are welcome to this free family program, even those not staying in the campground. Campground Amphitheater.

Saturday, August 21, 8:00 – 9:30 PM , Owl Prowl.
 Join park staff in search of these night-flying creatures as we do a little prowling of our own on the Red Spruce Trail. Free family program. Bring a flashlight and wear long sleeves, sturdy shoes, and insect repellant. Expect to walk about 1 mile over uneven, somewhat rocky terrain. Meet at Campground Amphitheater. Sunday, August 22, 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 12:00 PM

Pontoon Boat Tours. Join park staff for a relaxing and informative 1-hour tour of the lake as we search the shoreline for herons, ducks, turtles, and other wildlife. Program is free but donations are requested. All ages welcome. Pre-registration is recommended but not required. Lake Day Use Area.

Sunday, August 22, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Kids’ Story Time and Nature Walk. Join the Sinnemahoning State Park educator for a book reading, simple craft, and outdoor activity based on the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin, Jr. Program intended for families with children ages 3-7. Older and younger children welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pre-registration needed for this free family program. Meet in the Discovery Area near the Wildlife Center.
