Programs at Sinnemahoning State Park Weekend of August 7-8

 

This weekend Sinnemahoning State Park offers both indoor and outdoor programs for all ages. Programs include a nature walk, an indoor night sky slide show, craft for kids, an outdoor guided night sky viewing, and pontoon boat tours. All programs are free, family-friendly, and do not require pre-registration unless otherwise stated.

Nature Walk, Saturday, August 7, 9:00-10:30 AM. 
 Take a walk with the park educator to look for tracks and traces of wildlife and talk about the trees, plants, and flowers along the way. Hike will be about 1.5-2 miles over fairly level terrain. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a water bottle. Meet at the Wildlife Center.

Stories of the Night Sky, Saturday, August 7, 3:00-4:00 PM. 
Take a photographic journey from the earliest stories of the night sky through the birth of current scientific knowledge of astronomy. All ages welcome for this PowerPoint presentation indoors in the Wildlife Center classroom.

Starry Craft for Kids, Saturday, August 7, 4:15-5:00 PM.
 Learn about the stars of the night sky and create your own constellation in this fun activity. For families with children ages 4 to 10; older and younger siblings are welcome. Wildlife Center classroom.

Night Sky Program. Saturday, August 7, 8:00-9:30 PM
Experience the wonder of the park at night. Join the park’s newest naturalist on a laser-guided tour of the night sky. If weather conditions permit, telescopes will be available for an up-close look at celestial objects. All ages welcome, no pre-registration required. Bring a flashlight and a chair or a blanket to sit on. Meet at the Wildlife Viewing Area, one-half mile north of the park office.

Pontoon Boat Tours, Sunday, August 8. 
 Three tours starting at 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM, and 12:00 PM. Join park staff for a relaxing and informative 1-hour tour of the lake as we search the shoreline for herons, ducks, turtles, and other wildlife. Program is free but donations are requested. All ages welcome. Pre-registration is recommended. Lake Day Use Area.
