Ivan Anthony Frances


Ivan Anthony Franceus, 93, of 525 Poplar, Emporium, PA, died surrounded by his family at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College PA on Friday afternoon (July 16, 2021.) He was born July l2, 1928 in Hackensack, NJ, a son of the late Maurice and Elisabeth Prost Franceus.

On September 19, 1953 in Worcester, MA he married Betty (Amlaw) Franceus, who survives. Ivan played saxophone, clarinet and harmonica in a polka band for many years and wrote and copyrighted popular songs. He was a big jokester and grew up playing pool in the New York City poolrooms with his brothers. He served with the U.S, Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Union Carbide, where he worked for over 23 years. He ran several successful businesses with his wife and later with his son Paul. He was known to help everyone, even strangers on the street. He was a member of Saint Marks Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his 3 daughters Elizabeth (Mark) Daley of Connecticut, Juliette (Nick) Isanogle of Alaska, Mary Franceus of Annandale New Jersey, 3 sons Paul (Leslie) Franceus of Sinnamahoning Pennsylvania, Joseph (Lucy) Franceus of Basking Ridge New Jersey, Michael (Karie) Franceus of Texas, 12 Grand Children and 18 Great-Grand Children.

He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Elisabeth, his brothers Henri and Paul, his daughter Anita Hogan, son-in-law Tim Hogan, son-in-law George Chipko.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic church, 235 East 4th Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday July 24, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Paul S Siebert, pastor as celebrant. 
Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday morning from 10:00 – 10:45 am. Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery in Emporium, PA.
