Changes Coming for Christmas in the Wilds
Organizers of Christmas in the Wilds planning the event amid PA Department of Health restrictions. Usually held the second Saturday of December many of the events have been moved to the first weekend. “For years we have heard from hunters that having the event on the final day of deer season created a conflict,” explained Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak. The PA Game Commission has allotted three Saturdays to hunt, so many of the events associated with Christmas in the Wilds will be held December 4-5.
Many unknown factors have led to the parade moving to Friday December 4 at 6pm.. The chamber of commerce has been actively recruiting businesses, groups, and individuals to participate and light vehicles, and floats for the unique event. A tree lighting ceremony is in the early planning stages.
Saturday morning vendors will be encouraged to line Fourth Street and visitors invited inside Sarah Jane’s to visit with Santa. Breakfast with Santa may be canceled due to a restricted number of people allowed indoors at one time.
To keep with the second Saturday theme people will be encouraged to spend the evening looking at Christmas decorations and casting ballots for the best decorated homes. This year the contest will feature one winner from each of the five municipalities in Cameron County!Organizers say initial planning continues and more events may be added. Be sure to mark your calendars now for the date change for Christmas in the Wilds.
