EMPORIUM, Pa (WJAC) — Police say two men are facing assault charges following an altercation at the Emporium Sheetz earlier this week that led to one of the men stabbing the other, according to a criminal complaint.

Authorities say 24-year-old Dakota Brown, of Troutville, and 28-year-old Cody Saltsman, of Port Allegheny, are each facing charges after Brown stabbed Saltsman in the chest following an altercation.

Police say on Monday, around 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Emporium Sheetz along West 4th Street for reports of someone being stabbed.

Officers say they found Saltsman lying on the sidewalk in front of the store, and Brown was sitting on the sidewalk near him, when they arrived on scene.

Police then recovered a bloody pocket knife from Brown's possession and Saltsman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of multiple stab wounds, the complaint adds.

Upon interviewing witnesses, including Brown's girlfriend, and reviewing surveillance footage, police say that Saltsman met the couple at the Sheetz in order to return the girlfriend's purse which was left at a mutual friend's home.

Police say that during the course of the meeting, video shows Saltsman and Brown exchange words before the altercation turned physical, when Saltsman head-butted Brown.

After a few minutes police say that the girlfriend reappeared and tried to end the altercation, but that as the couple attempted to leave, Saltsman forcibly kissed Brown's girlfriend.

The complaint adds that Brown then ran back to Saltsman, at which time they began physically fighting again and Saltsman struck Brown in the head with his motorcycle helmet.

Brown then pulled out a pocket knife, police say, and stabbed Saltsman in the upper chest area.

The complaint notes that several bystanders attempted to provide aid to Saltsman, who as of Tuesday, was in "very serious condition."

According to court documents, both Saltsman and Brown face charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
