Extended Library Hours Begin Soon

Barbara Moscato Brown Library to extend weekend hours in February

Friday, December 27, 2019

The Barbara Moscato Brown Library is excited to announce that beginning February 1, they will be offering new, extended hours of operation on Saturdays thanks in part to an increase in state funding.

Beginning in February, the library will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. every Saturday instead of the current 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. schedule.

“We’re really excited about the change as it will allow us to offer more of our services and programs to the community over the weekend,” said Librarian Yelena Kisler.

To keep the schedule even, Wednesday hours of operation will shift an hour later and the library will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The remainder of the week’s hours of operation will remain from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday – Friday (except Wednesdays) and the library will remain closed on Sundays. No program or club schedules will be affected by the new hours.

Anyone with questions can call the library at 814-486-8011, email brocampl@zitomedia.net, or message us on Facebook or Instagram.

Cameron County Community Chest 2020 Fund Drive – Dec. Update

Cameron County Community Chest 2020 Fund Drive – Dec. Update

We are ten weeks into the 2020 fund drive. Over 200 letters have gone out to local individuals, businesses and organizations. We have had a great start. Through Dec. 14th we have collected $8,865 toward our $19,000 goal. Thanks to all who have contributed. This drive will run through September 30, 2020.

Watch for our monthly updates. Each month we will feature a write up on one of the organizations that the Cameron County Community Chest contributes to. This month’s feature will be the Cameron County Recreation Board.

Cameron County Recreation Center provides many different services to the local community. The main focus is to provide a safe but fun environment for area youth to enjoy.

The game room is open Monday through Saturday and offers a variety of table games and electronic gaming. The membership cost $5.oo per year and includes use of the outdoor basketball court and pickle ball court. They have two rooms available for rent for meetings and parties. The large room is the most popular for parties and can be rented for a minimal fee. There is no charge for non-profit rentals. Tables and chairs can be rented (when available) as well as outdoor party games. Zumba and Yoga classes are held throughout each week. Please contact the Center for more information or check them out on Facebook at Cameron County Recreation Center. The Recreation Center hopes to continue to collaborate with the 4-H program to provide out of school programs for youth ages 8-18 as well as summer 4-H programs. This summer, two local playgrounds were supervised, South Park and Third Street. The participants enjoyed presentations from many community organizations, trips to Sinnemahoning State Park and the Elk Viewing Center, programs at Sizerville State Park, art classes, slime making and lots other fun programs. Cameron County Recreation is also responsible for organizing and scheduling games for the girls and boys 4 th through 6 th grade elementary basketball program.

Cameron County Recreation Center is funded partly by the County, Emporium Foundation and Community Chest. The 4-H and summer programs are funded entirely by grants from the Emporium Foundation. For questions about any of the programs that are provided please contact the Recreation Director, Holly Manginell by phone 814-486- 8915 or by email at camcorecreation@gmail.com.

No donation/memorial is too small. Please send your tax-deductible contribution to: Cameron County Community Chest, PO Box 134, Emporium, PA. 15834, Attn: Judd Schager. Help to support the Recreation Board, Community Nurses, Red Cross, Friends of the Library, the Package Team, Garden Club, Special Community Requests, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Sylvan Heritage and the S.P.C.A.

The winner of our sleigh full of goodies at Christmas in the Wilds was Steph Zeitler. Thanks to all who stopped by our booth.

Stop by the lot near the Wine and Spirit Store and see our new sign. It was designed and made by a group of GKN employees. Thanks to them.

The Cameron County Community Chest Board of Directors wishes everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.

Arthur John Weid

Arthur John Weid, 79, of Manchester, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 9, 2019 after courageously battling an extended illness. Art was born on February 8, 1940 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the late Walter J. Weid and Janetta Parker Weid. He is survived by siblings Janetta (Don) Johnson and Walter (Trudy) Weid.

In 1957, Art married his high school sweetheart, Myrna Brown, and had three daughters, Lori Weid, Deborah Weid, and Rebecca (David) Brown. In 1968, he married Carol Poore and had son Jeffrey (Sue) Marlotty, daughter Danaelle (William) Crisp, and son Matthew Weid. Son Matthew preceded him in death in 1989. In 1980, he married Karen Weid at a chapel in Fort Lauderdale by the Sea, and she survives him. He is also survived by son Scott (Terri) Petersen. Daughter Diane Petersen preceded him in death in 2011. Art leaves behind 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren who were his biggest fans, along with countless friends and family members who dearly loved him.

Art attended Ann Arbor High and graduated in 1958. He played on the football team and made long-lasting friends. He was very proud of never fumbling the ball once, and for winning the conference championship in 1958. He had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the Acapella choir for the Pioneers during high school. Art worked as a printer, and those in the business often described him as “one of the best color printer guys around.” Art was an avid UM football fan and an overall sports enthusiast. In fact, he worked at the football games for over 50 years. Art also enjoyed bird watching, cooking, music and singing, golfing, and traveling to the Florida Keys each winter for over 30 years. Art passed on his love of nature to both his kids and grandkids. We will think of him every time we see a beautiful sunset, a bright moon, a hawk in flight, or a deer in the woods. His greatest legacy is his loving family, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, MI for a celebration of Art’s life. There will be a special memorial service at 7:00 PM with speakers, music, and a bagpiper to celebrate Art’s Scottish heritage. We look forward to sharing stories and memories together.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o Deborah Weid. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place. To sign Art’s guestbook, leave a memory, for directions, or for more information, please visit www.rbfhsaline.com.
