Inaugural Event Teams with Annual BBQ

Race winner Jeff Weidow finished 55 miles in 3 hours 29 minutes!

The weekend events in Emporium declared a success by organizers and participants. Cameron County hosted a gravel bike race Saturday. The Sinnemahone Gravel Road Race sponsored by Embassy Powdered Metals attracted more than 60 riders including four from Canada. A St Marys man rode the 55 mile course in 3 hours 29 minutes. A Turtlepoint man ran the 14 mile race is 55 minutes. The race utilized DCNR trails in two state forests, one state park and West Creek Rails Trails.

During the race, barbecue competitors fed a crowd in downtown Emporium. The fifth annual All Fired Up Kickin Ash competition drew 11 teams from across the United States. A unique feature of the event is a competition that includes “Mystery Meat” which is distributed the night before the event. This year rabbit – donated by Emporium Foodmart, was on the menu. Pennwood Smoke Chasers took home the $500 cash prize donated by Embassy Powdered Metals.

The final outdoor athletic event for 2019 will be held Saturday October 19. The Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run includes distances of 50K, 25K and 12K.
