Francis M. "Sam" Hardinger


Francis M. "Sam" Hardinger, 81, of 113 Hardinger Road, Sinnemahoning, PA died at his residence, Sinnemahoning, PA on Tuesday afternoon following a lengthy illness (September 10, 2019). He was born September 28, 1937 in South Park, Allegheny County, PA a son of the late Thomas and Mary Twig Hardinger. On August 8, 1964 in Overbrook, PA he married the late Mary Brain. Sam graduated in 1956 from Snowden Township High School in Allegheny County and then entered the Army and served during the Vietnam Era. He retired from The Army Corp of Engineers where he worked for many years. After he retired he moved to Cameron County and became the Grove Township Supervisor where he served for over 20 years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Driftwood, VFW and the American Legion in Emporium and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. 

 He is survived by a daughter, Mary Gibson, Emporium; two sons, Cyril Hardinger, Driftwood; and Daniel (Amy) Hardinger, Bethel Park, PA; five grandchildren, Ashley Grovanz, Samantha, Lauren, Cory and Alex Hardinger; two great grandchildren, Gabrella Gibson and Diesel Grovanz; three sisters, Karen (Skip) Felton, Midway, PA; Jane Krystek, Columbus, OH; Nancy Hardinger, Baldwin, PA.

 Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a sister, Dolly and four brothers, Denny, Ron, Bob and Tom. 

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth St., Emporium, PA on Sunday from 2-4 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Monday (September 16, 2019) at 11:00 AM with Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor, St. Leo Catholic Church, Ridgway, PA, as Celebrant. A Military . 

Burial Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail at the 
Gilmore Cemetery, Austin, PA.
