The Little Museum

Historical Society looking for help - The “Little Museum” in Sterling Run is open for the season!

Our hours are Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

Our displays and collections continually grow from the non-stop donations we receive of former industries and businesses. Our past school and military collections have expanded extensively as family members offer personal collections to us stating “these belong to Cameron County.”

Although our population has declined 40% since 1960, our history nor its preservation has not. The amount of requests from both inside and outside of our state continually grow as the fascination with where they came from and their families’ life journeys has increased tremendously.

The requests for us to open the Museum and History Center beyond our normal hours grows and grows, and along with the research is beyond what we ever could have anticipated. Not to mention maintenance and care of our collections.

Hard to believe, but “Cameron County’s history" has actually become an attraction. The decline in population goes along with volunteer decline. Something we have all heard in our area and surrounding areas for some time.

We at the Historical Society do not mind being the conservators of our history, but have to reach out for our members and the general public to assist us in being able to sustain our presence as it is.

The best part about us is that we don’t require constant involvement, we only need it maybe once or even twice a year for three hours. We’d love more, but we are realistic; although you might find our history addictive.

If you love meeting people and want to learn more about Cameron County’s history the Little Museum needs you ASAP. The only requirement is a willingness to greet people and share information. You can even take a friend, family member, or just yourself, whatever time you have available.

It is a chance for some family time that is fun, educational that can become an annual affair that is not only beneficial to you, but the community you live in.

In 2015, we were listed among the top 10 seasonal museums in Pennsylvania to visit; please help us to sustain it.

To volunteer at the Museum call Jean Tesauro 486-1422. If you are interested in other areas, such as our History/Genealogy Center, educational programs, or help with conservatorship, contact Susan Hoy at 486-0694 or Sandra Hornung 486-2162.

Sincerely, John Kautz, President Cameron County Historical Society
