Congratulations Hannah!
Hannah Shaffer, Junior at CCHS, wins the Emporium Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest March 12th. The club awarded Hannah $100.00 and she will advance to the Regional Speech Contest held in April with contestants from Rotary District 7360. Hannah’s speech, the “Importance of Music Education” addresses the importance of music, which enhances student’s understanding and achievements in non-musical subjects such as math, science, language, etc.
A requirement of the speech is to use the Rotary’s 4-Way Test: Is it the truth; is it fair to all concerned; will it build goodwill and better friendships; and will it be beneficial to all concerned. The use of each element of the test can be used to prove either a positive or negative point, but positive applications are more favorably weighted. A panel. of club judges score the speech and the speech is to be given in five to seven minutes and no props can be used, but at club-level, notes can be used. If successful at regionals, she will advance onto districts in May where the winning speech- presenter will receive a prize of $1,000.00. Hannah’s sister, Mason, won the District Speech Contest at the Rotary District Conference 7360 at Split Rock Resort in 2017.
