Geocaching Event at Elk Country Visitor Center July 14

Geocaching Event at Elk Country Visitor Center July 14

The second annual Elk Country Geocaching Event will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette, PA.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache container hidden at that location. At this event, hosted by the Keystone Elk Country Alliance, in partnership with the PA Game Commission and PA State Parks, individuals and teams will compete for points and prizes by searching for fifteen geocaches hidden throughout Benezette and the surrounding elk areas. At the start of the event at 10:00 AM, participants will pick up the coordinates at the visitor center and then spend the day traveling to various geocaches. Participants can win prizes by collecting points at caches and correctly answering trivia questions.

Participants then return to the visitor center promptly before 3:00 PM for the awarding of the prizes. Prizes will be awarded based on total points and most correctly answered trivia questions.

Cachers returning to the Visitor Center later after 3:00 PM may end up forfeiting any prize they may have won, so please be sure to return on time. The event will officially be over at 4:00 PM.

New and experienced geocachers are welcome to attend. If you are new to geocaching, there will be an introductory program presented by Mandy Marconi of the PA Game Commission before the event from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Experienced cachers, please visit the event listing at geocaching.com, cache GC7RGC6. To register in advance or for more information, please contact Courtney Colley at KECAConEd@windstream.net.
