Rotary News



2014 Rotary scholarship recipient, Marissa Umble (right), spoke at the Rotary luncheon meeting June 20th about her recent experience in the Dominican Republic. Marissa recently graduated from Lock Haven University and will pursing her graduate degree at Chatham University in Pittsburgh in the fall. Her recent travels included a 10 day trip sponsored by Lock Haven University to the Dominican Republic where she and other students visited various schools including a school for special needs children, observed different teaching methods and taught some classes, participated in service projects and a community house painting project, handed out food, along with many other activities. Education is free in the Dominican Republic but education is encouraged to upper and 
middle class youth.

 Also pictured (left) is Lize Leunen, a former club exchange student from Belgium, who is here visiting the Umbles. Lisa graduated from college with a degree in hotel management and is now working in Belgium.
