Joan Elizabeth Keniston, 83, of Howard Siding, died Tuesday (April 3, 2018) at her daughter’s home in South Chesterfield, VA following a lengthy illness. Born February 8, 1935 in Everett, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Cecil and Mildred Fletcher. After graduation from Bedford High School, Bedford, Pennsylvania she met Allen “Rod” Keniston, who was assigned by Penn State University as the Bedford County Assistant Extension Agent. On October 10, 1955, in Winchester, VA, she married Rod. In 1962 they moved their family to Emporium, PA. They successfully raised four children in Cameron County and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2005.
On September 6, 1958, Joan was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Right up to her death, she regularly shared with anyone who would listen the Bible’s message that God’s Kingdom will soon restore the earth back to a paradise and that by means of Jesus’ Ransom sacrifice humans can enjoy perfect health and everlasting life in that paradise.
She is survived by her “favorite” daughter, Kymberly & Mark Pond of South Chesterfield, VA; three sons, Mark & Pattina Keniston of Camden, NY, Zane & Gina Keniston of Belmont, NY, and Allen & Stephanie Keniston of St. Marys, PA; three granddaughters, Emily & Adam Wallis, Jovanna & James Curtis, both of Rome, NY, and Jazlin Rose Keniston, of St. Marys, PA; and one grandson, Gage Michael Keniston of St. Marys, PA; five sisters, Lorraine & Bruce Richmond of Bedford, PA, Linda Smith of Hobe Sound, Florida, Martha & Larry Eshelman of Shelby, Ohio, Katie Fletcher of Chambersburg, PA, Robin & Blake Brailler of Everett, PA; three brothers, James & Judy Fletcher of Reidville, SC, Phillip & Anna Fletcher of Las Vegas, NV, and Clifton “Hop” Fletcher in Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; one special niece being Terri Ann Suladie of Emporium, PA.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Rod, and her brother Dennis Fletcher of Bedford, PA. Dennis’ wife, Josephine, survives.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral service, conducted by Mr. Donald Malize, will be held on April 21, 2018 at 2pm at the Kersey, PA Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 339 Main Street, Kersey, PA 15846.
