Evelyn Hockenberry

Evelyn Hockenberry, 93, of Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA formerly of 4787 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium died at the Manor on Sunday (February 11, 2018) morning following a lengthy illness.

She was born April 24, 1924 in Wallis, Texas a daughter of the late Ignac and Julia Jochec Fojtik. On May 16, 1944 in Richmond, TX she married the late Earl B. Hockenberry. He died July 23, 2006. Mrs. Hockenberry was born and raised in Texas, the youngest of six daughters. Her family had a farm, and she often talked about helping in the fields, picking cotton by hand. She also loved going to dances. It was when she was a waitress that she met Earl Hockenberry, who was an airplane mechanic stationed at Foster Field, Texas. After they were married Earl brought her to live in Cameron County when he was discharged from the Army. Evelyn worked at Sylvania for a few years, and Earl started a sawmill with his partner Gerald Lewis. Years ago she enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, painting ceramics and doing embroidery. More recently, she liked sitting on her swing and when she lived in assisted living, coloring pictures of flowers and butterflies.

 She is survived by a son, Dariel (Cheryl) Hockenberry, Emporium; two grandchildren: Scott Hockenberry and his son Chase; Laura (Jake) Sorg and their daughter Kiley, and a great grandson is due in June; along with several nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five sisters, Ollie Dorsey, Lenora Pyka, Elsie Brdecka, Wilma Gaddis and Valista Fojtik.

There will be No Visitation

. A Memorial Service will be held in april and will be announced at a later date.

 Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium, PA
