Cameron County Community Chest 2018 Fund Drive – Jan. Update
The Cameron County Community Chest Board of Directors wishes everyone a very Happy New Year. As of January 22nd, we have collected $11,297.00 toward our $20,100 goal. That puts us at 56% of our goal. Thanks to all who have contributed so far. The 2018 fund drive will stay open until September 30th.
This month’s featured organization is Penn Highlands Community Nurses.
Penn Highlands Community Nurses is a non-profit home care organization that provides comprehensive services to patients in more than a dozen counties throughout Pennsylvania, caring for more than 1,200 individuals each day.
Types of home care services provided include:
Supportive Care: Support services provide the helping hand patients with advanced illnesses need to stay safe and independent at home. Patients with advanced illnesses that don’t have a cure can face unique challenges, like frequent trips to the hospital or doctors’ offices for the management of pain and other symptoms. The goal of supportive care is to ease these challenges.
Home Support Services: Through home support services, also commonly known as private duty services, well-trained, compassionate personal care aides can help elderly patients or individuals with a physical disability or chronic illness remain safe in their homes.
Home Health: Home health is available for patients who no longer need hospitalized but still need professional care, teaching and assessment. For them, health care comes to their homes through visits by Penn Highlands Community Nurses staff. Many patients have chronic diseases, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes or lung disease, that require ongoing changes in their plan of care. Others may need short-term care with wound care or help taking medicines.
Hospice: Hospice is a special kind of care that offers comfort and support to individuals who are facing any type of life-limiting illness. A patient doesn’t have to be bedbound or critically ill to be on hospice. Being on hospice means that with or without this specific program, the outcome of an illness will be the same. But with hospice, a patient and family will have the support of a skilled team of professionals, including nurses, hospice aides, social services, pastoral care and physical, speech and occupational therapists. The majority of hospice care is provided in the patient's home, the home of a loved one, or in a contracted nursing home.
Adult Day: Adult Day, a licensed center located in St. Marys, offers socialization and supervision for older adults, and a much needed break for their caregivers. Adult Day provides an activity-oriented program in a pleasant atmosphere from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
