Donald R. Hefright, 91, of 23 W. 2nd St., Emporium, PA formerly of Huntingdon, PA died at Snyder Memorial, Marienville, PA on Tuesday, (August 8, 2017) evening following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 18, 1925 in Huntingdon, PA a son of the late Emmerson and Minnie Hughes Hefright.
On June 15, 1974 in First United Methodist Church in Emporium, PA he married Helen E. Housler Hefright, who survives.
Don was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Huntington High School. He served with the US Navy Seebee's for three years during WWII. He attended Juanita College for four years majoring in English. He worked for the United States Postal service as a assistant post master for many years retiring from the Johnsonburg, Pa Post Office. After moving to Emporium he served as the administrator for the mentally challenged group home which is now Northern Tier. He and his wife traveled and loved attending family events. He was active in the community in various organizations including the VFW, the American Legion, the First United Methodist Church and the Senior Center. He also served on the Shade Tree Committee for many years, researched and producted four geneology family names. Some of his hobbies were tennis, polka/square dancing, golf, artist, picture framer, and carpentry.
He is survived by his wife Helen E. Housler Hefright; four sons, Tom Hefright and John Hefright both of Johnsonburg; Craig Hefright, Russell, PA and David Shaw, Emporium; four daughter, Nancy Hartman, Kane; Lori Waddell, East Rochester, PA; Bonnie Smith, and Cathy Wright both of Emporium; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmerson and Minnie Hughes Hefright, two sisters, Martha and Mabel; two brothers, Cloyd and Dick Hefright and his former wife, Jeanine Speaker Hefright
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 306 South Spruce St, Emporium, PA on Saturday (August 12, 2017) at 3:00 PM with Rev. Joseph Short, Pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial service.
Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium, PA
