Ribbon Cutting for West Creek Recreational Trail
The 18.9 mile trail connecting St Marys and Emporium will be officially opened by the West Creek Recreational Trail Association on Monday August 7 at 11am. The 13 year project provides four seasons of recreational opportunities. Walking, cycling, cross country skiing and snowmobiling permitted on the trail which was funded by public and private funds.
Users obtain a glimpse of the PA Wilds through animals and plants found along the span. Recently an electronic counter installed measuring the usage. Since June 17 a daily average of 130 people has enjoyed the flat level surface. Bird houses serve as mileage posts, signs designate amenities like restaurants and shopping areas, while benches provide a respite for users.
The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting which will take place near the Cameron/Elk County line at the Rathburn Trailhead.
