Rotary News

Bearded Brewing entrepreneurs , Ryan Magaro & Joshua Zucal were the guest speakers at the Rotary luncheon June 20th. Josh Zucal and wife, Lindsey, who went to culinary arts school, started operating the Aroma Café a few years ago with the idea of implementing new ideas, menu and drinks as something different for the community. Josh & Ryan shared their knowledge and process of roasting their coffee beans and packaging them for sale, along with their beer brewing skills. Josh’s hope is to someday turn the Aroma Café into a Nano brewery.

The gents gave a history of coffee which is native to tropical Africa and whose origin is in Ethiopia as far back as the 10th century. Coffee is a shrub and the seeds of the berries from the Coffea plant are picked, dried and roasted. The most two common types are arabica and robusta. Coffee is cultivated in 70 countries primarily in the equatorial regions of Americas, Southeast Asia, India & Africa. More than 25 million people around the world rely on the coffee industry for their income. About 2.25 billion cups of coffee are drank around the world with Americans drinking 22 gallons on average a year. Pittsburgh was the first importer of coffee in the U.S.

On a side-note, I have to say the coffee is delicious !!
