Programs Offered at Sinnemahoning State Park over Independence Day Weekend
Sinnemahoning – Sinnemahoning State Park is offering a variety of free family-friendly programs to park visitors over the Independence Day Weekend
Crayfish and Other Creek Critters, Saturday, July 1, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM, 40 Maples Day Use Area
Wade into the cool water to catch crayfish and other stream-dwelling animals. Water shoes or boots are recommended. Nets and containers will be provided. All animals will be released back into the wild at the end of the program. All children and adults are welcome to attend this free family-friendly program.
Shadow of Misunderstanding, Saturday, July 1, 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM, Campground Amphitheater
Are timber rattlers as dangerous as the stories that surround them? Set aside your fears and learn about this mysterious, yet fascinating animal. Campground talk followed by a 30 minute video. Everyone is invited to this free family program.
Leaf Boats: DiscoverE Program, Sunday, July 2, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM, 40 Maples Day Use Area
Make boats out of leaves and other natural materials and float them on the First Fork Sinnemahoning Creek. This DiscoverE nature learning program is intended for families with children ages 4-8. Water shoes are recommended.
Owl Prowl, Sunday, July 2, 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM, Campground Amphitheater
Learn about the wonderful owls that prowl the night woods in Pennsylvania. After a short discussion, join park staff in search of these night-flying creatures as we do a little prowling of our own on the Red Spruce Trail. Everyone is invited to this free family program! Wear sturdy shoes. Hike will cover about ½ mile over uneven terrain. Bring a flashlight.
Bike and Float the First Fork, Monday, July 3, 2017, 12:00-3:00 PM, 40 Maples Day Use Area
Join park staff on a bicycle tour along the Lowlands Trail, then enjoy a relaxing float back to 40 Maples on an inner tube. Adult bikes, inner tubes and life vests available. Group size is limited.
Pre-registration is REQUIRED.
Fish for Free Day, Tuesday, July 4, All Day
Take advantage of the fish-for-free day offered by the PA Fish and Boat Commission. Go fishing at Sinnemahoning State Park! No fishing license is required to fish in Pennsylvania inland waters on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Forgot your fishing gear? No problem!! Loaner fishing tackle is available at the Park Office & Wildlife Center.
