Peter F. Grovanz, Jr

Peter F. Grovanz, Jr., 96, of 3764 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, PA died at Penn Highlands-DuBois on Tuesday (February 2, 2016) morning. He was born October 14, 1919 in Emporium, PA a son of the late Peter and Rose DeMoro Grovanz, Sr. On November 25, 1962 in Emporium he married the late Mary Ellen Griffith Grovanz.

Mr. Grovanz served with the US Army, during War War II, from February 5, 1941 to October 29, 1945. He served in the the European African middle eastern campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was wounded in France on December 24, 1944 and he returned to action to fight in four more countries. He was awarded a Purple Heart medal on January 7, 1945, American Campaign medal with five bronze stars. Peter retired from Louis and Hockenberry where he had worked for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. Pete also enjoyed gardening and farming and his animals.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. 4th St., Emporium, PA on Friday from 2:00-4:00 PM followed by the Funeral Service with Rev. Joseph Short, Pastor, First United Methodist Church, officiating. A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium, PA
