Sinnemahone Ultra Marathon Sees Growth
The third year of the Sinnemahone Ultra Marathon increased the number of registered participants over 2014. “The event was successful with no serious injuries,” said race director Craig Hudson. The event included 3 races, 33 miles (50k), 16 miles (25k) and added this year 7 miles (10k).
The 10k race was a close finish. Earning first place was Derek Newcomer from Harrisburg with a time of 1:04:37, followed by Ryan Andrews of Tunkhannock 1:04:40. Lynn Newcomer earned the Caldwell Cup as the first male finisher from the host community, while Barb Grimone took home the Caldwell Cup as the first female finisher from Cameron County. Samantha Nedzinski from St Marys was the first place female competitor with a time of 1:20:44. Other fnishers included Mike Galluzzi, Emporium, Julie Lang, Ridgway, Tricia Porkolab, St Marys, Tiffany Gledhill, Coudersport, Nicole Larsen, Coudersport, Heather Bauer, Emporium and Kris Lamey from Mifflinburg.
The 25k saw Matt Lipsey from Kersey set a new record…shaving 6 seconds from his time and running the race nearly 1 hour faster than his nearest competitor at 1:50:21. The top female finisher Jennifer Helman from Reynoldsville with a time of 3:08:46. The Caldwell Cup went to male finisher Robert Steffer and Eugenia Clark both from Emporium. Other competitors included Trent Wissner Pittsburgh, Robert Hunt, Dunbar West Virginia, Brian McCusker Coudersport, Adam Peterson Titusville, Kent Byler Allensville, Jeff Cann Gettysburg, Stephen Spinda Kersey, Jude Schlimm Kersey, Christine Slusarick Emporium, Jeanmare Holjencin Emporium, Paul Draper Holland New York, Darrel Byler, Allensville, Dave Bish Dubois, Kate Simbeck Dubois, Dana Crisp Emporium, Nancy McBreen Emporium, Alayna Genevro Emporium, Chloe Slusarick Emporium, Stephen Winston Emporium, Nancy Vierhaus San Jose California, Marilyn Erickson Emporium, and Diana Streich Ridgway.
The 50k top male finisher with a time of 5:40:10 was Vincent Ortiz from Chesapeake Virginia and the top female trail runner was Meg Parke from Pittsburgh at 6:18:47. Taking home the Caldwell Cup from Cameron County were Saul Solveson and Stephanie Loveland. Other participants included Tim Abbey Elizabethtown, Chris Latsko from Royersford and Donny Keller from Penn.
The race trails wind through the Elk State Forest on DCNR maintained trails and is held the third Saturday in October. Complete race results can be found at www.ultrasignup.com
