L. William Smith



L. William Smith, 69, of 204 Sunrise Acres, Emporium, PA died at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, PA on Thursday (May 28, 2015) morning. He was born October 9, 1945 in Naples, Italy a son of Felina Marchetti Smith, Roaring Spring and the late Harold “Snuffy” Smith. On April 23, 1977 in Emporium he married JoAnn Thompson Smith, who survives.

 Bill graduated from Central High School, Martinsburg, PA in 1963. He subsequently earned a business degree from Allegheny Community College, Pittsburgh, PA. He worked for Commercial Bank in Pittsburgh, PA for approximately 10 years and moved to Emporium, PA in January 1976. Bill was employed by Bucktail Bank (now Northwest Savings Bank) for 20 years. He worked at the bank in various managerial positions in the Loan Department. Ultimately he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Upon leaving the bank, he worked at Northern Tier Community Action Corporation as Fiscal Manager until April 2008. He served on various Boards, including the Emporium Foundation and Cameron County Industrial Development Authority. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Emporium. Bill enjoyed reading, electronics, traveling, astronomy, Westerns with John Wayne, and his beloved dog, Max. His true passion was cars and car shows.

Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Sunday (May 31, 2015) at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bruce Burkness, Pastor, St John's Lutheran Church, officiating. 

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Sunday, one hour prior to the Service 
(1:00 PM-2:00 PM.)

 Burial will be in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring, PA
