Rt120 Crash Near Emporium

An Allegany, New York, driver was flown to an Altoona trauma center with critical injuries and a Philippi, West Virginia truck driver died on the way to St. Marys hospital, after their vehicles struck head on Thursday afternoon on Route 120 in Portage Township in Cameron County, PA.

James R. Burgeson, 61, of Allegany, NY, suffered severe injuries and was flown to UPMC in Altoona.

Philip D. Wagner, 51, of Philippi, WV, was transported to Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys where he was pronounced deceased by Elk County Coroner Michelle Mucciio.

Both men had to be extricated from their vehicles by members of the Emporium Fire Department.

TFC Gary Barnes of the Emporium barracks said the crash occurred about 3:00 PM when Burgeson was traveling West on SR 120 in a 2015 Subaru Outback and Wagner was traveling East in a 2013 Ford Truck. Burgeson's vehicle traveled into the Eastbound lane and struck Wagner's truck head on

. Route 120 was closed for approximately 4 hours. The crash remains under active investigation.

Trooper Barnes was assisted at the scene by Emporium Fire Department, Emporium Ambulance, St. Marys Paramedic, Ramsey Towing, PennDOT, and the PSP Troop F Collision and Reconstruction Unit. Mercyflight flew to a landing zone at the Cameron County High School and transported to Altoona.
