Cameron County Celebrates Christmas in the Wilds

Christmas in the Wilds begins early this year. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the contest is on for the best decorated house in Cameron County. Free maps and ballots can be picked up at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce office. The homes will be lit from 6-9pm each of the three nights. The ballots are due by Saturday morning 10am. The winner of the contest sponsored by L&M Lumber will be announced following the parade on Saturday. The winner will take home $100 in Chamber Bucks, second place will receive $75 and third $50.

Friday night the House Tour will be held 6-8pm. Tickets are available at the chamber for $10 each. “We are fortunate to have businesses willing to support the events,” says Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. Those with tickets to the house tour can receive free bread knots at Pizza Palace Plus and a free desert at Aroma CafĂ©.

Saturday events begin early. Santa will arrive at the Emporium Firehall at 9am to have breakfast with children of all ages. The breakfast is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Breakfast will be served by members of the Emporium Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary until 11:30am. Vendors will open booths starting at 9 and feature gifts ready for giving, and food.

Santa will be bringing Blitzen and Donner to Emporium for the day. The reindeer will have first class accommodations provided by Seneca Resources in downtown Emporium. At 11 Mountain Melodies will perform inside the chamber office. Many businesses will have specials sales and offer a place to warm your toes and fingers!

Noon the parade will step off with the Emporium Fire Department providing transportation for Santa! Santa says if Blitzen and Donner are not too tired they may lead the parade. The winner of the house decorating contest will be announced at the chamber following the parade.

The weekend does not end till midnight! The Community Benefit Dance will rock the Cameron County Vets Club starting at 8pm. Proceeds will be given to a Cameron County family in need.
