Tips for Viewing the Sinnemahone 50K
Nearly 80
racers will tackle the Sinnemahone 50K on Saturday October 19. The race will begin at 7:30 am from the
intersection of West Creek Rails to Trails and South Broad Street in
Emporium. A 10 hour limit has been
imposed on the event which will lead trail runners over more than 33 miles.
The course
includes DCNR trails throughout the Elk State Forest. The boundaries include Route 120 to Ridge
Road from Salt Run to the Emporium Country Club. Because of the rugged terrain viewing
opportunities are limited, but organizers offer a few tips on vantage areas. No
streets in Emporium will be closed, but spectators can line the West Creek
Rails to Trails from the start/finish line at the intersection of South Broad
and West Creek Rails to Trails east to the caboose near Route 120. Parking is available at the Cameron County
Little League Complex and Buttonwood Restaurant and Motel where participants
will start the first climb. The entire
course totals a 4,000 foot climb. To
catch runners nearing the halfway point, Ridge Road Vistas provide ample
parking and a safe area to pull off the road.
Emergency
personnel will be stationed throughout the course. A total of six aid stations will be equipped
with volunteers with first aid training, and food and beverages for
participants. During the event
spectators are urged not to park on the course, or block gated roads. Pets are discouraged and no runners are
allowed to accept aid from spectators.
Cheering is strongly encouraged!
A medal and
trophy ceremony will be held at 6pm at the pavilion near the start/finish
line. The public is encouraged to
attend.
