For years residents in Emporium have stopped in the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce office and reminisced about the shopping that once filled Fourth Street. This week the chamber launches a new campaign calling Emporium the land of endless gifts!
“Within one block there are eight retail stores featuring gifts. If you can’t find a gift in one of those stores, then you should consider a gift certificate,” says Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Johns Solak.
Two stores have opened this month, Wheaton Gun Supply carries hunting licenses, guns, ammunition and fishing supplies plus outdoor clothing. The other new store is Sweet Scentsations featuring home decorating items, but also chocolates, and infant clothing.
They join established stores like Reids Hometown Emporium which is a RadioShack dealer and offers electronic toys and gadgets. Cappy’s Clothes carries Red Raider Football fan gear and handmade dish cloths among wool socks, scarves, plus men and womens clothing. Emporium Pharmacy is your headquarters for Melissa and Doug wooden toys, picture frames, unique holiday decorations and at Christmas features an entire room devoted to Christmas items.
The next store is Flowers N Things. The name says it all, not only can you purchase fresh, silk, or dried flower arrangements, but stuffed animals, wall art and cards are also sold. Copy Katz has food items from Potter County including maple syrup and mustard plus offer one of a kind imprinting on mugs, and shirts. The chamber office is filled with unique artwork including jewelry, photographs, purses, and pottery.
“This is quite a collection of stores and Emporium is very fortunate to have new stores opening their doors, when so many nearby towns are saying goodbye to local merchants,” Johns Solak continues. “The price of parking is among the lowest in the region and Emporium Borough Council usually approves free parking for the holiday shopping season starting in November through the end of December.” Parking is available in front of the stores and the cost is one dime for one hour of parking.
The merchants intend to use the slogan: Emporium The Land of Endless Shopping through the busy holiday gift giving season.
