Cassie B. Kohn, 85, a resident of the Guy and Mary Felt Manor, formerly of 380 E. 5th St. Ext., died Tuesday morning (Oct. 18, 2011) at the Manor. She was born July 11, 1926, in Ronco, PA a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Braddee Barnhart.In 1942, she married Charles "Sam" VanDivner, who died in 1962. On June 26, 1965, she married Ernest "Ink" Kohn, who died March 27, 1998.
Cassie was a Christian who had a deep and lifelong faith in God. As a teenager she worked for a photography studio in Uniontown and was also a housekeeper. Following the death of her first husband, she and her family moved to Emporium, where she continued working as a housekeeper, including at the former Sylvania Club. For the past 25 years, she had been a healthcare worker, caring for the sick in their own homes and had worked for the Community Nurses. Cassie was an artist and enjoyed sketching and painting. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Hayes of Emporium; two sons, Mark VanDivner (Donna) and Earl Brent VanDivner, of Emporium; one stepson, Kevin
Kohn, (Judy Caffey) of Newville; four grandchildren, Tony VanDivner of Kersey, Chad VanDivner of Philadelphia, Ben Hayes and Jessica Hayes, both of Emporium. Two great grandsons; a sister, Minta Minerd and a brother George Barnhart both of Masontown and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Charles "Red", Earl, Joe, Harry Barnhart and Rusty, in infancy; and one sister, in infancy.
Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Thursday from 7-9 PM.
Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. R. Scott Melott, Pastor, First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
