Austin D. "Augie" Kowell, 78, of 84 Valley View Rd., Emporium formerly of Monessen died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys Wednesday, (June 22, 2011) afternoon.
He was born February 23, 1933 in Monessen a son of the late Paul and Mary Watovich Kowell. On January 3, 1960 in Emporium he married Janice Broker Kowell, who Survives. He and his wife were married over 51 years.
He graduated from Monessen High School and served with the US Army reserve. Augie had worked at Sylvania, for over 38 years, where he was a tool and die maker. He later worked at Caldwell Corporation for 10 years. He was a member of the American Society of Tool Engineers (ASTE). He was a the owner of the former Kowell Family Restaurant in Emporium and also the caretaker of Newton Cemetery for over 21 years. He had been a member of St. Johns Russian Orthodox Church in Monessen. He was a avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, Emporium on Friday from 6-8 PM followed by the Funeral Service at 8:00 PM with Rev. James Eastman, Pastor, Abundant Life Tabernacle, officiating.
A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail following the funeral.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
